Colorado Kayaking and Fly Fishing

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Convention - Day 1 Product Highlights

We arrived very late Wed night at 3am (or I guess you could say very early Thursday morning), slept for a few hours and headed to the show!  Huge booths in every size, shape and color greeted us as we entered the mammoth Salt Palace...everywhere the eye could see!

Please remember that this was a Retailer Only Show and some items may not be available yet or only from your local retailer.  If you would like to get any of these products or have any questions, Call us at the Shop (303) 215 9386

NRS:  Our first private appointment was with NRS.  A few new things definitely caught my eye – like the fact they are adding a new hydroskin shirt that has a full front zipper making them much easier to get in and out of.  Nice improvement for an item that everyone needs for layering in Colorado.  We are also looking forward to the rescue version of the “Ninja” coming out in 2012.  PLUS - They have a cool new edition to their inflatable SUP Board line called the “Big Earl”.  Look for this possibly coming soon to a GRS store near you!

Level 6:  Our rep Greg showed us the new line up for 2012.  Look for interesting new colors in their dry-tops in both mens and womens.   The Mack dry top is undergoing a new overhaul so expect to see a brand new beauty by Spring.  They also have new winter gear they are releasing that is SEXY – including coats, hats and layering.   Their t-shirt line has a new designs that are unobtrusive and super awesome.  Everyone will want one.

Core Paddles:  This is the hot new paddle hitting the market in 2012.  Pro kayaker - Steve Fisher just signed with them.  These paddles are unbreakable, yet lightweight thermoplastic composite paddles.  Virtually indestructible.  Cool colors, cool design and BOMBER!  Designed, built, invested in, tested, marketed and paddles by kayakers (the owner of  the company is Steve Horvath whom some of you may recognize from Waterstick Paddles).&nbskin shirt that has a full front zipper making them much easier to get in and out of.

Redington:   Redington is launching an all new line of clothing for both men and women – and not just for fly fishermen – for everyone!  This clothing line will rival anything you would see from Cloudveil, OR, Patagonia or Eddie Bauer just to name a few – only much more reasonably priced.  Not cheap – just less expensive.  Good quality clothing.

Jackson Kayak:  We also stopped by the Jackson Kayak booth for an appointment with Nick Troutman (EJ and Emily both stopped by the say hello as well).  We got to see their new boats they are coming out with for 2012.  One was named the “Zen” which is a faster, much improved river running boat.  It will come in three sizes – 55, 65 and 75.  This will be a fantastic boat for newbies to learn in and a wonderful boat to teach in as well.   They are also launching a new river runner called the “Fun Runner” which is just what it sounds like – a fun river runner.  Its sort of  a river running boat that reminds me of the older school RPM boat (kinda retro old school cool).  GREAT looking boat that will do really well.  See photo included in this blog.  Jackson is also releasing some new fishing kayaks – one of which caught my eye because it has a place for a “live well” in the bottom of the boat – right between the paddlers legs.  It also comes with a liner if you choose to use it as a spot to bring along some refreshments as well!  See photo included.   Jackson is making some improvements to their plastic this year so for all of you who broke boats in 2011 – improvements are on the way.

Aquabound:  Great paddles at affordable prices!  They have added a line of SUP paddles and accessories and continue to do well with their products.  Proud sponsors of Drew Gregory, professional kayak angler.

Watershed Bags:  Watershed dry-bags are so awesome!  They are THEE BEST waterproof dry bags on the market today!  Couple of cool new things for 2012?  Check out their all new waterproof dry bag for the iPad (or similar models of touch pad technology).  You can even use your touch-pad now underwater – if you ever have the need.  See photo included.  They also have a nice waterproof wallet that you can take with you on the water.  For those of you who have ever traveled to a foreign country and just felt better taking your passport, money and keys with you on the river instead of leaving them behind – now you can - in waterproof compact comfort.  Check it out!  Awesome!

Adventure Trailers / Overland Equipment:   Golden River Sports is REALLY interested in working with Mario and the crew!   From their fleet of 4x4's....a tent deploys from the top over the hood, and the back is equipped with fridge, stove and even a hot water heater!  Its a house in a truck...a "habitat!"!   They may come by for a visit in September to Golden River Sports so we'll keep you informed!

Stanley:  Best coffee mugs and thermos....vacuum mugs bottles and more.

C4 Waterman:  We went to visit Charlie MacArthur of C4 Waterman.  (son of James MacArther who played “Danno” on the original TV show “Hawaii 5-0”) and crew to view all their new inflatable SUP boards for 2012.  Company origin is Hawaii. Balance, Strength, Endurance and Tradition is the C4Waterman Philosophy.  C4 Waterman also set the record for Guinness Book at this year's OR conference by paddling the world's largest SUP Board named SUPZilla – 32' 5” long by 6'10” wide! See the video (and hear the cool song) of this happening at the bottom of their homepage at www.C4Waterman.com

Rab:  Rab has everything from sleeping bags and tents to expedition gear and clothing made for the most extreme conditions.  If you need a new down jacket this winter – check out Rab!  Booth was wonderful staffed with locals from their USA facilities in Louisville, CO including friend of Golden River Sports – the famous Karen Moldenhauer...former employee at Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder.   She knows her stuff and has been trained well.  Visit Neptune's to see all of Rab's line.
