Colorado Kayaking and Fly Fishing

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Convention - Day 4 and 5 Product Highlights

Salt Palace

Day 4

Snapdragon:Snapdragon has always been quick to support nonprofit like Colorado Whitewater Association so we gave them a visit at their booth. GREAT bungee skirts and new for 2012 – a super heavy duty rand skirt...and simply said – their skirts are made to fit ANY size cockpit. They also have THEE best pogies ever! We are looking to bring Snap Dragon into stock for 2012 at GRS.

Sperry Shoes: We had to go check them out since we are being bombarded lately with advertising and marketing. Sperry is the origin of the original boat shoe (remember the brown leather we all wore in the 80's?). Their "SON-R" shoe claims to have extra slip protection … and shoes that “see” where you are stepping. Here is a good review

Backwater Paddle Company: We went to see them as they have hand-built a series of one-handed paddles that are meant to be used by fishermen to sneak up on their catches instead of using flippers or oars from their rigs. Simple in design, but highly effective to use as you can still hold your rod in one hand while using the hand paddle for short-distance stealthiness.

Patagonia: Patagonia is releasing a whole new series for fly fisherman this year – new waders, boots and clothing.

Nite-Ize / Otterbox: We LOVE Nite-Ize! Nite Ize offers a full range of performance LED flashlights, safety products, toys, games, pet products and gear ties. You want spoke lights for your bike? A light-up collar for your dog? Dome lights, vests, clip-ons, headlamps....bike, hike, dive, sail, kayak, raft, ….Nite-Ize has it all! Headquartered in Boulder, CO. We also explored all of the new Otter Boxes (think Pelican Boxes – only better). Awesome, awesome stuff – LOVE IT!

D-Fa: D is for dogs. One of my favorite booths at OR. Angela (hometown is Lake Wanaca, New Zealand) is sincerely one of the nicest people I have ever met. We bought one of their “Puff-Doggie” down coats for our beagle Newman last winter and it is one of the best purchases (other than the actual dog) we ever made. They use the same materials as the North Face, Marmot and Ice Breaker – and apply it to clothing for your dogs. As our black lab Mr. Magic is getting older now (12) and has arthritis, this year we purchased an "Ice-Barker" merino wool coat to comfort him and also help with his anxiety. Its working GREAT! Please, please check them out at www.D-Fa.com and tell them Golden River Sports sent you! We hope to have some of their products in stock in 2012.

Ruffwear: Ruffwear continues to be a leader in dog boots, leashes, collars, harnesses and packs to enhance outdoor adventures for your dog!

VestPac: VestPac operates out of Jackson, WY and they have a cool, lightweight, low profile, hydration system pack for fly fishermen. Their new model has a drop down panel in the front with velcro attachments and pockets. Neat little item.

GoPro: GoPros have been popping up everywhere this year and the paddle industry is no exception - the world's number one sports camera. The new big thing for 2012? 3-D. That's right - 3-D. All is takes is their special waterproof housing unit built for 2 cameras that align the lenses perfectly - and you have 3D filming! So if you already have one of their HD cameras - just buy a second one along with the proper housing - and you've got 3D. I had my doubts until I put on my 3D glasses and watched the final product - AMAZING! I believe Rush Sturges is about to release an all 3D kayaking film as well. 2012-3D.

High Rollers: Think "big wheel" only for adults.
High Roller

Cobra Braid: Its a bracelet you wear. Its a bracelet you can unwind up to 8 feet in length. Its a bracelet that could save your life. Each bracelet is made from military grade paracord and tested to maintain up to 550 lbs of force. Ideal for camping, hiking, boating or fishing or in any sport where survival situations do occasionally come up – and strength
and durability could be required. Cool little item.

Sandiline: Cool new small company out of Slovakia, but operated “locally” out of Maryland. They are doing high-end dry tops and dry suits. Emily Jackson recently signed on with them so we gave them a good hard look!

Wind x-treme. Multifunctional headwear. Think “buff” but with cool colors and options.

Day 5

We spent the morning purchasing some personal items ...chatted with some of the pros like Steve Fisher, Corran Addison, Tao Berman, the Jackson Family and Rush Sturges....then the long 8 hr drive back to Colorado. Worth every minute and every penny! Golden River Sports promises to continue bringing you the best in inventory for fly fishing and kayaking in 2012. We also look forward to Outdoor Retailer 2012 to bring you the best for 2013!
